Comme Atom RPG (ou Krai Mira avant lui), Encased semble à la fois s'inspirer et vouloir rendre hommage aux premiers opus de la licence Fallout. Ce sera donc un fallout-like isométrique avec des combats au tour par tour. Il est développé par le studio Russe Dark Crystal Games, dont certains des membres ont travaillé sur Divinity : Original Sin 1 & 2. Pour l'instant, Encased est annoncé pour début 2019.

Le lore est encore mal définit. Une chose semble certaine, "CRONUS" - dont le nom signifie "Committee on Researching of Objects of Non-Usual Source" -  est une société qui, dans se description, ressemble pas mal à la société Vault Tec d'avant l'apocalypse.

 

Etant abonné aux news du studio Dark Crystal Games, j'ai récemment reçu un mail fort sympathique, présentant un échange de mail entre un militaire haut gradé et un médecin, tous deux employés de la société CRONUS.

Frank Cabbot spends up to 20 hours round the clock staring at the wall of the ward without moving. He is also constantly crying. There have been successful self-harm attempts, so we had to cuff him. General mental condition of Frank Cabbot is considered critical and this is very weird: we are using relevant medication to suppress his anxiety, but it simply doesn’t help.

Le mail ne contenait aucun lien, mais a éveillé ma curiosité. En cherchant "CRONUS Foundation" (adresse de l'expéditeur), j'ai pu trouver le site de (la société fictive) CRONUS Foundation.

Il y a un message d'accueil concernant l'obéissance à CRONUS, ce qui m'a fait penser à "l'Ordinateur" dans le jdr papier Paranoïa...

 

Actuellement, la page affiche un questionnaire de personnalité qu'il est possible de compléter. Il n'est pas long, mais une solide maîtrise de l'anglais est nécessaire pour le remplir (il y a de l'argot). Afin de ne pas fausser le résultat pour les dévs, veuillez donc vous abstenir si vous ne comprenez pas les réponses.

Sur le forum de la communauté, qui est accessible via le site officiel de Dark Crystal Studios, on trouve un minimum d'informations concernant ces départements :

 

Black Wing       = service de sécurité militarisé

Blue Wing         = constructeurs et ingénieurs

Orange wing    = hors la loi et criminels ("CRONUS croit que chacun a droit à une seconde chance")

Silver Wing       = développement commercial, ventes et marketing

White Wing      = scientifiques et médecins

 

Mon résultat, sans grande surprise, me convient : Orange.

 

 

La première fois que j'ai entendu parler de Encased, j'étais sceptique. Les seules images disponibles donnaient l'impression que le jeu voulait trop s'inspirer du design des premiers Fallout. Depuis, le peu qui a été révélé sur le lore a éveillé mon enthousiasme.
Le classement par couleur me fait (une deuxième fois) penser à l'univers de Paranoïa. Les intitulés des "Wing" fait très culture d'entreprise. Par exemple, le "service de sécurité militarisé" ne se nomme pas bêtement "les militaires"...

Il se pourrait qu'on ait le droit à une sorte de Shinra de Fallout VII - entreprise toute puissante - mais sous couverture dystopique. Une description qui s'approche encore plus proche de la compagnie Omnicorp et de sa filiale OCP dans Robocop... Oui je sais, j'étale ma science.
 

Il me semble qu'il y a un sacré potentiel pour du bon jeu de rôle.

Nouveau mail reçu par les devs de Encased. On peut créer son propre NPC et son histoire, et les meilleurs seront présents ingame.

Everyone could join C.R.O.N.U.S.: we improved the candidate form, making it more intuitive, and added new illustrations. If you will, you can make up a biography of your hero, filling in the relevant field. These biographies shall remain in C.R.O.N.U.S. supercomputer’s memory forever, and characters with the most interesting biographies will appear in the game as NPC’s! I’m happy.  After a quick inspection, It became clear not everything is so great: the trackers in some helmets have bad shielding so there’s interference near an electromagnetic field source. In some helmets they don’t work at all. In other respects the helmets are ok: they sit tight on a head and they look good with the uniform. What worries me is their polishing and nickel-plated parts. I’m afraid after several month the look is lost.

On ne pourra diriger directement que notre avatar. Il faudra gérer des stratégies pour les alliés, cela me fait penser à Fallout 1 et 2.

 

Le trailer est aussi pas mal, mais j'attends de voir du gameplay.

After Reset, c'était un projet très ambitieux et sans ressource aucune. Du vent ^^

Apparemment,  un artiste (malchanceux) a bossé sur les deux projets... et pas mal d'autres.

Sinon, certains anciens développeurs de Larian Studio (le studio derrière Divinity : Original Sin 1 et 2) font partie de l'équipe de Dark Crystal Games.

Perso j'ai backé, plutôt hypé par leur manière d'aborder le post-apo même si ce n'est pas d'une originalité fulgurante, ça fonctionne très bien sur moi en tout cas.

Par contre la rumeur sur le fait que le mec derrière serait aussi le mec d'After Reset ça se confirme ou bien ?

Ce qui est bel et bien confirmé, pour l'instant, c'est que les artworks de la campagne de promotion de After Reset et Encased ont bel et bien été réalisé par la même personne, qui se défends de toute complicité avec les actions de Mr.Nixon. Mais avant même que l'info tombe, les deux campagnes promotionnelles avaient l'air bien similaires, tant sur le fond, que sur la forme.

 

En ce qui me concerne, je m'abstiendrais de verser de l'argent ou de faire la promotion de ce jeu (et être indirectement complice de l'arnaque, s'il y en a une) avant qu'ils aient publié une démo jouable, suffisamment fonctionnelle.

 

Et de manière générale, pour tout projet, je conseillerais d'attendre au minimum une démo jouable ou des extraits vidéos montrant comment le jeu se déroule concrètement, avant de verser le moindre centime. (à moins qu'il s'agisse de développeurs ayant déjà fait leur preuves). N'importe qui peut poster du texte et des images et dire qu'il va faire un jeu.

Il faut être méfiant sur kickstarter. Il y a aussi le cas des vidéos de "gamelpay" qui sont du rendus 3d et non tirées d'un jeu déjà en phase de développent. Ou le cas bien connu des early access "abandonnés".

Je dois bien admettre que le développement ne semble pas très avancé.

 

Il y a beaucoupl "d'updates" avec à ce kickstarter, presque trop. L'update 14 est intéressante, elle présente les différentes "wings", sortes de factions liées à votre passé et à votre emploi. Inclus, une vidéo de 20 minutes contenant pas mal de dialogues.

Le jeu a quasiment atteint son objectif initial (100k$). Il reste une semaine.

Le jeu sera dispo en français notamment.

Et oui, l'objectif de la campagne kickstarter est atteint avec 100'000$ récoltés (sur 98'989).

 

Tous les stretch goals sont révélés, il y en a 9. Selon moi, les paliers les plus intéressents sont les véhicules utilisables (130'000$) et le support pour les mods (160'000). Retrouvez tous les stretch goals dans l'update 21. Il ne reste que 5 jours pour atteindre ces buts.
